Clear Water Co.

Benefits

What hard water does — and what treatment changes.

Colorado's hard water leaves minerals behind everywhere it flows. Here's what softening and filtration can realistically do for your home.

Less scale in water heaters

Hardness minerals form scale when water is heated. Softened water reduces that buildup, which can help water heaters run more efficiently.

Protects appliances & fixtures

Dishwashers, washing machines, faucets, and showerheads see less mineral buildup with softened water.

Fewer spots & less soap scum

Glassware, shower doors, and fixtures are easier to keep clean without hard water spotting.

Better lather

Soap, shampoo, and detergents lather more easily in soft water, so you may use less of them.

Gentler on laundry

Detergents work more effectively without hardness minerals interfering.

Filtered drinking water

Reverse osmosis reduces many dissolved solids and can improve the taste and clarity of drinking water.

Understanding hard water

Where mineral buildup comes from

As groundwater and surface water move through rock and soil, they pick up calcium and magnesium. These minerals are measured as hardness, usually in grains per gallon (GPG). When hard water is heated or evaporates, the minerals are left behind as white, chalky scale.

A softener removes hardness minerals before they reach your plumbing. RO filtration is a separate step focused on your drinking water.

Note: Water quality varies by home and source. We don't make medical or health claims. If you have specific water-quality concerns, we recommend a certified laboratory water test.
